Benefits

Investing in your growth

Creating a learning and growth environment for our people is really important to us. We support our people in a number of different ways, depending on what their own individual learning and development needs are. Some ways we support learning and development include:

  • Offering a variety of learning opportunities aligned with our Professional Continuum that span technical legal skills and personal growth at the different stages of a lawyer's career, from graduate through to special counsel.
  • Supporting graduates and solicitors with the transition from university to the workplace, rotating graduates in different practice areas to gain exposure, pairing graduates and solicitors with buddies to equip them with essential knowledge, skills and support.
  • Providing financial assistance for law clerks towards IPLS/College of Law course fees as well as some costs associated with admission.
  • Providing face-to-face and online training programmes for all employees, including career stories and top-down learning initiatives, designed to enhance expertise, leadership capabilities and both personal and professional growth.
  • Offering seminars to deepen knowledge across our practice areas and workshops focused on improving health and wellbeing, supporting all our people with the tools to succeed and creating a healthy, positive workplace.
  • Study leave is available to support our people to achieve their learning and professional development goals.
  • Valuing ongoing learning, supported by both informal 'on the job' feedback and formal performance reviews, ensuring you have the guidance needed to succeed.

Supporting health and hauora/wellbeing

Our industry is well-known for long hours, high workloads, and levels of stress. We want to demonstrate that a law firm that puts its people first and has a positive, healthy and happy work culture can also be financially successful. Some ways we support health and hauora/wellbeing includes:

  • Partnering with Groov to deliver a tailored hauora programme, taking an evidenced-based approach which focuses on action and behaviour change at all levels (individual, team and firm).
  • Offering all employees access to Westpac’s Managing Your Money programme, a series of engaging, practical and interactive financial wellbeing seminars to help our people feel more confident when it comes to making decisions about money.
  • A flexible working policy that offers our people flexibility in the location in which they work (including at home) as well as the ability to vary their working hours. This includes a monetary allowance to ensure our people have the right set up at home.
  • An annual wellbeing allowance of $500 per year to help improve individual wellbeing, which could be anything from replacing your running shoes, having a massage or going to dancing lessons.
  • On completion of five years' continuous service, individual employees receive an additional week of annual leave each year.
  • Discounted health insurance with Southern Cross, annual free flu vaccinations and weekly Pilates classes in both offices.
  • Offering both employees and their whānau/family access to confidential and independent counselling support. We also have mental hauora ambassadors available in both offices who are trained to recognise and respond to those experiencing mental health concerns.
  • Social connection is an important part of our culture and our hauora framework, so our social committees in both offices organise a range of activities throughout the year, giving everyone an opportunity to socialise, have fun and get to know each other better.
  • Offering an annual paid volunteer day so everyone can all actively engage with and contribute to the communities in which we operate.

Enhancing family support

Our progressive parental leave policies offer significant support for primary carers and partners, so we offer enhanced parental leave entitlements so new parents feel supported and able to spend time at home with their whānau/family, with less financial strain.

  • Topping up to full salary up to 26 weeks.
  • Continuing to pay full KiwiSaver employer contributions up to 52 weeks.
  • Paying annual leave at an employee's full rate.

We facilitate a smooth transition back to professional life with flexible working conditions and a range of supportive measures to ease this important life change.
